Successive approximation ADCs are like a binary search algorithm which is used to find the value of input analog value. The flash ADC is fastest but requires a lot of hardware components (space). Of these successive approximation ADCs are used in the microcontroller due to its satisfactory speed, trigger type nature and simple low cost implementation(AVR,NXP LPC17xx,TI TM4Cxx). I would be discussing here Ramp-compare ADC, successive approximation ADC and flash ADC. Microphones that are used in our phones are also connected to ADCs.ĪDCs can be called samplers, quantisers with encoders. The digital oscilloscopes also have ADCs in it. Working with microcontrollers that have inbuilt ADCs, gave me the chance of exploring ADCs. ADCs are the devices which convert the analog signals to digital signals after which these digital signals can be used for further processing. Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) and Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) are the devices that enable us to use the power of Digital systems in real world.
